Community Outreach Ministry
The Community Outreach Ministry is responsible for finding creative and innovative ways to reach out to the surrounding community that will have a lasting impact on the lives of the people who live there.
Currently, we are planning a massive community outreach event in cooperation with the Detroit Partnership...
THE DETROIT PARTNERSHIP
Neighborhood Initiative
About the Initiative:
The Neighborhood Initiative is an invitation-only Initiative started by The Detroit Partnership.
The Initiative is a five year research and development project designed to equip churches and Christian organizations by providing training, technical assistance, and resources.
The Initiative believes that the solution to the challenges of children and families are being generated by the neighborhoods themselves. The Initiative will collaborate with more than 135 individuals representing 80 churches and Christian organizations locally and nationally who are dealing with the challenges in imaginative and innovative ways.
The Initiative will provide training, technical assistance, coaching for churches and Christian organizations to research, write, implement, and evaluate activities for children and families. These successful self-help activities are rooted in the premise that solutions can be found by capitalizing on the assets of the neighborhoods.
About The Detroit Partnership:
The Detroit Partnership is a membership network of individuals, churches, and Christian organizations.
The vision for The Detroit Partnership emerged from Matthew Parker’s participation with the Detroit Convoy of Hope’s day of outreach, held February 4, 2006.
The foundation for the vision emerged from The Institute’s roles and responsibilities in the following Initiatives.
- Pastors Development Program serving 100 pastors in Mendenhall, Mississippi from 1988-2000.
- The Skillman Foundation Faith-Based Initiative serving 55 churches and faith-based organizations from 2001-2006.
- Convoy of Hope Detroit Super Bowl XL Host Committee sanctioned event serving 7,800 Detroit area residents with food, social services, and hope.

Community Wide Outreach Events
The U.S. Outreach department at Convoy of Hope plans approximately 40 outreaches each year in communities across the country. An outreach is a one-day special community event designed to meet both human and spiritual needs of impoverished families.
On average the event partners Convoy of Hope with 1,000 local volunteers to serve anywhere from 3,000 – 5,000 guests. Outreaches give hope by providing free groceries, health and dental screenings, free haircuts, games and activities for children and all ages. Connections are established through job fairs, churches, government agencies, and community service organizations.
Opportunities for ongoing service are made possible by giving volunteers a chance to connect with local residents, making a lasting impression on all who participate.
What is the Guest of Honor Principle?
Convoy of Hope takes pride in its guest of honor principle. Our goal at a Convoy of Hope outreach is that every recipient be valued, respected, and treated as a guest of honor. Every aspect of an outreach is based on this principle; and, on the day of an outreach, all areas of service demonstrate this principle. We unconditionally love and accept each guest without regard to age, race, physical appearance, or spiritual condit
